Paranormal "Certifications", Don't Waste Your Money!

By Phil Sheridan, Director, Quabbin Valley Paranormal

I am writing this letter to all investigator’s of not only my group, but to anyone that is interested in becoming an investigator.

If you search the internet, you will notice many so called “Ghost Hunter” or “Paranormal Investigator” certification courses. These courses are offered at RIDICULOUS prices! One course I saw offered was $400 dollars!  There is not to my knowledge, any true certification as a Paranormal Investigator, and if these people say there is they are lying. I am a certified Paramedic. I took a test and am CERTIFIED and recognized in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Paramedic. If you take one of these so called “certification courses” online, you would only be “certified” in the eyes of the organization that just ripped you off!  But I am sure you will get a cool certificate suitable for framing!

The materials these courses offer, and the content are all easily obtainable by other means. Many good books on paranormal investigation are available at book stores like Borders, Barnes and Noble, or Amazon. And, if you know how to utilize Google, you can find a LOT of FREE information on this subject.

We don’t get paid for the services we provide (well most groups don’t, that’s another sore subject!), and to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on a course that really doesn’t get you much is ridiculous.

As a team Director, I do require that members of my group take  an orientation course. As of now, because we are new, I have them attend known orientation classes with either TAPS or New England Paranormal. I personally have taken the TAPS class and got a lot out of it. The prices for these courses are reasonable, and they tell you up front that it is only an orientation and not a certification.

I would hope that all groups would share their knowledge with others. We are willing to help out anyone who asks and share what we can.
