Narrative

A party requesting our assistance in investigating a residence in Springfield, Ma.  We accepted the case and Kelley Dubrule was assigned as the Case Worker to this case.  The person requesting assistance states she believes her apartment to be haunted.  Many reports of paranormal activity occurring at the residence including noises, footsteps, objects moving, and voices heard.  These occurrences were witnessed by multiple parties.

The intake interview was performed by Kelley Dubrule and a date  was set to provide preliminary site investigation.  A team of five was selected.  Phil Sheridan, Dennis Peck, Kelley Dubrule, Robin Minkema, and Tim Devault would be the team going in.

We arrived on site at 2000 hours.  The reporting party was home and greeted us.  The building is a three story converted multifamily with the family living on the first floor.  Through records check, the building was built in 1925.  The  family apartment was the first floor, which included 3 bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, and 1 ½ bathrooms.  It is also noted that there are renovations taking place on the third floor apartment which currently is vacant.

There were multiple claims of paranormal activity.  A “man in the wall” which is a voice and shadow that appears in the boys room was witnessed by one of the one of the sons, but was not witnessed by the other son who shares the room.  There was a report of a kitchen cabinet beneath the sink which would open and close on its own, this was witnessed by multiple parties.  A toy was also witnessed being moved back and forth on the kitchen counter just above the dish washer.

Everyone has witnessed footsteps and voices possibly coming from the kitchen area while people are in the living room, including names being called out by family members who weren’t present at the time of the events.

We did a baseline EMF sweep of the entire residence.  We found extremely high EMF readings in the wall between the living room and dining room, levels up to 192.0 mG.  We found the same high readings on the wall on opposite side of living room.  This probably caused by old wiring in the walls.  We made mention of this to the occupant and gave them a link to a website that explains EMF and exposures to EMF.  This would possibly explain why the reporting party complained of having headaches and feeling of being watched.

We set up stationary cameras in the main bathroom and in the kitchen.  We also set up stationary audio recorders in the boys room and the living room.

While investigating the claim of the “man in the wall” in the boys room, we noticed a hole in the child’s closet going to the second floor bathroom, part of the pipe chase for the toilet from upstairs.  This possibly could be the “voices” heard as there would be less resistance to voices travelling between floors, and according to occupants, they state the second floor tenant (landlord) is a loud man.  As far as shadows witnessed in the room, the night light in the room changes colors, and creates many shadow like events in the room as the color changes.

While investigating the claim of a dark mass in the bathroom, we noticed as light passes through the window in the shower area; it can create a shadow like impression, especially if the shower curtain is closed.  We did set up a stationary camera here with nothing found.

Another report was that of a cabinet door that would open and close by itself in the kitchen.  The cabinet in question was under the sink.  The cabinet had self closing spring hinges and had a clamp style child cabinet lock hanging from it, not engaged.  We set up a camera in the kitchen on this area.  The cabinet opened hard which ruled out possible wind opening the door.  We did however notice that the homeowner’s cat would rub against the door, especially the dangling lock, and the door would open and snap shut creating a bang which in turn scared the cat off.  This was the only possibility we came up with.  Nothing found on video review.

The next report was that of a child’s toy car that would move on its own in the kitchen as well, on the counter just above the dishwasher.  We set up a couple cars in that spot and had a camera set up to record.  No movement of vehicles.  The dishwasher running was the only explanation we could come up with for moving the cars, but the homeowner states it was not running at time.

We noticed that there was a lot of audio “contamination” from outside.  The residence was located on a very busy street.  You could hear people walking and talking outside, car doors slamming, etc.  This could be the explanation for the voices heard.  While a crew was in stairwell leading up to third floor, we noticed that when sitting in the living room, you could hear the voices of the crew doing the EVP session upstairs, so sound did travel very easily through the residence.  The homeowner stated however, that some of these voices actually called out names of those who lived there.  We had no explanation for this.

The only personal experience felt was by Tim, who felt very uneasy in the daughter’s bedroom, but later in that room did not experience that feeling again.

We reviewed all the data with no significant findings.  We advised the client of what we did and that there was no evidence found to support the claims at this time.  We advised her that this does not mean there is no activity going on, just that we did not find anything during our visit.  Advised client to keep a journal and document everything.  She stated they are moving soon back to a family home in another City, where they also had activity.  We advised her that this case will remain open as long as she wants us to keep it open.  She will call us when they make the move.

A follow up email sent to us by the client, states it has been quiet at the Springfield residence since we visited.  She was extremely appreciative of our service.
